Rose Paving worked with the Home Depot Foundation to rebuild a devastated West Virginia community
For the past seven years, Rose Paving has been working with the Home Depot Foundation to give back to communities in need. Recently, our Chief Operating Officer Chris Tanner, Director of National Accounts B.J. Schlageter, and National Account Executive Kyle Vock traveled to West Virginia to rebuild a community that was devastated by flooding in 2016. Chris, B.J., Kyle, Home Depot and a team of volunteers were able to build three homes and restore a playground in a matter of days. Rose Paving was honored to lend our years of experience in paving and construction to help this community flourish once again.
Our Partnership With The Home Depot Foundation
The Home Depot Foundation’s projects focus on communities affected by natural disasters, with an emphasis on serving U.S. military veterans and their families. Both of these causes hit home for us: our branch offices across the country frequently contribute to rebuilding efforts in the wake of natural disasters, and Rose Paving is proud to count 14 veterans as part of our family, which is why giving back to veterans plays a major role in our company-wide philanthropic efforts. “We like to take part in things that give back to the people that have sacrificed the absolute most for us and our country,” said Vock.
In recent years, Rose Paving volunteers have been repairing, building and re-outfitting homes for military veterans in Tuscon, Ariz. in collaboration with Home Depot and Habitat For Humanity. Projects include adding insulation, installing wheelchair ramps and renovating bathrooms and doorways to accommodate veterans with disabilities. In 2016, the team traveled to Los Angeles and put their skills to work rehabilitating a military base.
White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia
This year, Rose Paving’s volunteers joined the Home Depot Foundation team to travel to White Sulphur Springs, W. Va. In 2016, this community was ravaged by a flash flood that destroyed hundreds of homes and took 26 lives. The Home Depot Foundation raised $3.8 million for the rebuilding effort, and volunteers worked from sunup to sundown over the course of several days to help restore the community to its former glory. Rose Paving’s volunteers helped construct three houses, and made extra time to build picnic benches for the local playground to make it feel like home again.
Building Homes and Filling Hearts
At Rose Paving, giving back is a part of who we are. Our philanthropy committee works year-round looking for new volunteer opportunities for our team. That’s how we’ve built long-lasting relationships with charities like Ronald McDonald House. We’re proud that our charitable efforts span a wide range of causes and are guided by our employees’ passions. Whether it’s volunteering to cook and serve a homemade meal, or paving a parking lot for a facility that supports nonprofit work, Rose Paving employees are always looking for ways to give back.
Vock said that volunteering through the Home Depot Foundation was the catalyst that inspired him to find more ways to give back to military veterans—and he’s getting his whole office involved in it. “I just reached out to Habitat for Humanity here in Denver, and we’re looking forward to tackling more projects with the Restore Team here,” he said.
